Program Overview
Our Expanded Learning After School Program is designed to foster academic, social, emotional, and individual growth in all of our students. Students will have time for hands-on, engaging learning experiences; a place to play that promotes connections with others in a positive way, and stimulates creative thinking and exploration. It is the goal of our program to provide a familiar place where students feel safe, empowered, and eager to learn.
Our Expanded Learning After School Program is pupil-centered and complements, but does not replicate learning activities in the regular school day. Our program creates an environment that promotes diversity and cultural humility, empowers students to strengthen their leadership skills, promotes health habits, and nurtures the development of the whole child. We offer a unique environment where students of all ages can interact, learn and play together.
The After School Program will be open from school dismissal until 5:30PM each school day, including TK/K at 12:30 dismissal
Sonoma County YMCA Program Philosophy
The YMCA provides a safe and supervised environment that supports and offers extended educational, enrichment, and recreational activities. Each day the program provides a variety of activities for participants to choose from – homework help, sports, cooking, games, STEM and arts & crafts.
YMCA After School Programs seek to expand children’s potential by providing a supportive, safe, creative, fun environment in which they can develop socially, intellectually, physically and emotionally.
Our program objectives are:
- To provide a program of creative, appealing learning experiences for children through supervised recreational activities.
- To provide an opportunity for the child’s development of self-confidence and a foundation for socialization skills.
- To create an environment that fosters opportunities for the development of the child in the areas of: Health & Nutrition, Physical Education, Skills Development, Interpersonal Relationships, Self-Awareness & Confidence, Self-Sufficiency, and Academic Skills.
- To provide opportunities for children to develop an understanding of self and others and to develop social skills in a warm, positive, respectful and supportive environment.
- To support and strengthen the family by providing opportunities for families to share experiences and values, and to broaden their sense of community with other families.
- Our goal is to meet the needs of families by offering safe, accessible and affordable programs.
